  • Weather and society 2024

    The second edition of the Weather & Society conference took place from February 26 until March 1, 2024. On that occasion,  the umbrella of the conference was the UN initiative Early Warnings for All.

    The conference's themes and sessions focused on the social science contribution to Early Warnings for All, including a participatory postconference workshop on cross-cutting enablers that connected across and within all aspects of the early warning system.

  • Weather and society 2022

    The objectives of the conference were to:

    • discuss and promote all aspects of social and economic research applications along the weather forecast value chain 
    • bring people together from the operational meteorological and hydrological services, research and forecast user communities
    • identify gaps, needs and challenges to reducing the risks to citizens and society 

    The online conference was free of charge and ran over two weeks. Each session focused on a theme and ran for two hours and included talks and discussion. Poster sessions followed the oral presentations and were carried out in the online platform www.gather.town to provide social and meeting spaces for discussions and to create connections. 

    The outcomes of the First WMO WWRP/SERA Weather and Society Conference were published at BAMS identifying the gaps and research needs for Enhancing the Value of Weather and Climate Services in Society.
